They are the best psychological tricks to use when you want to mess with people. Utilize them wisely!
1. Nod your head
If you want visitors to agree with you, then all you have to do is nod. In a 1980 study published in the Basic and Applied Psychology journal, scientists found that when people nod while listening to something, they’re more likely to agree with it. So if you nod while speaking, the other person can start to nod aswell and start to trust you, without even once you know it. Nodding your head when asking someone a question will also make them more prone to agree with you or comply with your request.
If you wish to give a person a bit of advice that they will just take seriously, make sure you have someone trustworthy working for you. Tell them that your grandmother or father gave you a similar little bit of advice. People trust parents on a subconscious level which endorsement will make your words seem better.
3. Ask people for favors when they’re tired
Should you want to ask a person for something, try to find an instant when this person is tired: like if you want to ask your boss for a day off, you should attempt doing it at the end of the day. A person who really wants to deal with these questions faster is prone to give you what you need.
4. Mimic people’s body gestures
Mimicry, or mirroring, is when you essentially copy someone’s gestures or speech patterns. There is plenty of research that suggests that in the event that you copy someone’s body gestures, they are more likely to identify with you subconsciously, which makes them more prone to do what you want.
Marco Iacoboni, author of Mirroring People: The Science of Empathy and How We Connect with The others, claims that mirroring can help establish rapport, which is an important step to becoming friends or acquaintances with another person. That he explains that exhibiting similar actions, attitudes, and speech patterns as another person may cause them to believe that you are more similar to them and therefore more likely to be a friend.
5. Job interview
This tip might seem trivial to you, but don’t neglect it. Before a job interview, pay a lot of attention to your appearance. It is scientifically proven that people that are more physically attractive are believed to be more intelligent.
6. Take notice of the unique words people use and then utilize them your self
Similar to mimicking, listening to the unique words that a person uses will really assist you to gain a better knowledge of that person.
John Schafer, Ph. D., a behavioral analyst for the FBI, that he calls these words, “Word Clues. ” That he writes within an article on PsychologyToday: “If the eyes are the window to the soul, then words are the gate way to the mind. Words represent thoughts. The closest one person will get to understanding yet another person’s thoughts would be to listen to the words that he / she speaks or writes. Certain words reflect the behavioral faculties of the person who spoke or wrote them. ”
So by listening vigilantly to the words that somebody is using and using those same words when you speak, you will likely establish more trust and rapport with that person.
7. To get something big, you need to start small
For example, if you want to ask a friend for a big favor, you need to ask them for a little one first. But this trick also works the other way around. If you want to ask someone to lend you money, and you need $50, ask for $150. The person is very more likely to refuse to give you the larger amount of money, but they will feel uncomfortable and can give you the amount you truly need.
